About Sub Sonic Audio - Our Story
Hi, I'm Stew. Thanks for taking the time to read this - it genuinely means a lot!
Ok, where to start. I've been at this for over 20 years. Started out on Technics 1210s DJing before stepping foot into my first bedroom studio running an Atari ST running Cubase, an Akai S3000xl, a Behringer Eurodesk MX2442A and a Korg Z1, learning from other DJs and producers, making mistakes, figuring things out the hard way. No courses, no YouTube tutorials - mostly trial, error, and asking questions of people who were kind enough to answer them.
The music taste has always been varied. Growing up listening to Ska, Reggae, Phil Collins and Led Zeppelin leads you down a wonderfully varied musical palette. So the fact I ended up loving Rage Against the Machine, Miles Davis, Goldie, Dr Dre, The Prodigy, Hans Zimmer and Cypress Hill is really no surprise. If it had something going on sonically, I was interested. Genre was never really the point for me. The feeling was.
Over the years I got progressively more obsessed with hardware. And yes, before you ask - I absolutely have GAS (Gear Acquisition Syndrome). My bank account has the scars to prove it. But somewhere along the way a treated room appeared, then calibrated monitors, then more outboard than I probably needed. You know how it goes. All worth it though for the sonic differences and the geekery. If any of that sounds familiar, you're probably a Tweaker - and that's exactly why that section exists on this site. There's a whole section on this site built for exactly that, and products aimed at like-minded "Tweakerz" like us. So pull up a chair - you're among friends here!
Sub Sonic Audio is what came out of all of that. Setting this up is something I've wanted to do for a long time. Turning a passion that's taken up a huge amount of my life (and money, let's be honest) into something that actually helps other producers make better music. That's the dream. This is me finally doing something about it.
Everything in the catalogue is built the way I'd want it built if I was buying it. Real gear, at my fingertips, ready to record - without endless hours of programming and cleaning samples up.
If you've bought something - thank you. Seriously. You're part of this from the very beginning and that means more than I can really put into words. If you haven't yet, have a browse and if you've got any questions just get in touch.
