Gear Freakz – Inside the Sub Sonic Audio Studio

Since you've clicked through here you're clearly one of us, so I won't hold back.

This is the studio that makes everything on Sub Sonic Audio. It's been put together over a long time, with a lot of patience and a completely unreasonable amount of time/money spent on things my non-producer friends would describe as "old junk." They're wrong.

Here's the current setup:

Core Synths: Moog, Nord, Roland, Access Virus, Korg, Yamaha, Behringer (yes they're good!) and more - the kind of collection that keeps growing no matter how many times you tell yourself you're done.

Samplers: Akai S950, Isla Instruments S2400 (EMU SP1200 replica), Roland S-760, EMU E4X and Akai Sampler (this little thing is amazing!) - the heart of the Sub Sonic sound. If you know, you know.

Outboard FX: Lexicon, Eventide, AMS Neve, Bricasti, Fractal Audio, Elektron - because reverb from a plugin and reverb from a real Bricasti are two completely different conversations. They both have their place.

Outboard Processors: Manley, GML, API, IGS Audio, SSL, Neve, Heritage Audio, RND, A-Designs, Kush Audio, Thermionic Culture - this is where the character gets baked in.

Monitoring & Conversion: Genelec 8240s with 7620A sub, Ferrofish A32, RME MADI FX - calibrated to the room, so what you hear is actually what's there.

Wiring: Van Damme cables throughout

The Room: Fully treated and isolated, Furman isolated PSUs and segregated earth system. Boring to explain, makes an enormous difference in practice.
